Alright Alex, 6:12 PM here. Hope you had a good Easter Sunday and are enjoying the public holiday today!
You’ve got “Start Running Taper” on the plan for today. Great stuff! Just a heads-up on the weather for getting out there:
- Tonight (Monday): It’s looking pretty wet out there right now, with a high chance of rain (around 70-85%) from now until about 7 PM. It will also start getting dark around 8:07 PM. Probably not ideal conditions for a run.
- Tomorrow Morning (Tuesday): Looking much better! Dry spells expected with plenty of daylight from around 6:00 AM onwards. Might be a much nicer time to get that taper started outdoors. If you’re keen to move tonight, maybe some indoor cycling could be a good alternative?
Given it’s Easter Monday, a public holiday, the work calendar items like the Backend (10:30 AM) and Frontend (11:00 AM) stand-ups were likely cancelled or lightly attended today. Always good to check!
Speaking of strange occurrences, scientists say there’s a Yes, there really is a black hole on the loose in Sagittarius! Honestly, I just thought Tara had finally decided to organise her sock drawer.
Here’s a quick look at what’s popping up:
- Sad news from the Vatican: Pope Francis has died, the Vatican camerlengo, announces.
- In tech news: Gemma 3 QAT Models: Bringing AI to Consumer GPUs are here. Also, check out Python’s new t-strings and dive into Things Zig comptime won’t do. On the geopolitical tech front, the USA Unable to Make Drones Without Components From China and the EU gives staff ‘burner phones, laptops’ for US visits | That would put America on the same level as China for espionage.
- Science corner: Explore The effect of deactivating Facebook and Instagram on users’ emotional state, how Authoritarian minds may be primed for conspiracy beliefs, and how A research team from Yonsei University has developed an AI model that screens for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) using retinal fundus photographs.
- Meanwhile, globally: El Salvador proposes sending US-deported Venezuelans to Venezuela, Indian students rethink US plans: Education loan firms panic as enquiries drop by 50% and China vows retaliation against countries that follow U.S. calls to isolate Beijing.
- Some uplifting bits: 3 teens invented a salt-powered refrigerator that doesn’t need electricity. Enjoy the rest of your holiday evening!
